Founded in 1949 and now located in the historic James Anderson building, the Lake Forest Book Store has become a staple of the community offering not only a wide selection of literature, but unique crafts and gifts as well as a robust children's section. Mellody Farm Nature Preserve is 50 acres of conserved land as part of the Lake Forest Open Lands with hiking trails, ponds, wetlands, and a historic estate entry gate dating back to 1909. The gatehouse was renovated in 1999 and renamed the Lockhart Family Nature Center.
